lights and spring

My boyfriend's mother came over and gave him a very simple solution to our wobbly light fixture problem. I wasn't home, so I'm not sure what this very simple solution was, but I'm just happy to have it done. I got this new fixture just for aesthetic reasons. I didn't realize there was a practical benefit until we had it installed: the old fixture only had one light bulb and this one has two. The extra brightness is appreciated.

I brought Perry along when I purchased this light since I didn't want him to hate it. Perry is pretty unconcerned about home decorating in general but when he has an opinion it's a strong opinion. This was not the case this time. He said he didn't like it, but he didn't hate it. This was a win in my book, since I loved it. Ambivalence on one side and a strong opinion on the other means the strong opinion wins, right? It's like the agreement Perry and I have with lace clothes: I like (not love) clothes with lace overlay. Perry hates lace. So no lace when Perry's around.

What I'm trying to say is that I love my new kitchen light. My godmother had a stained glass light in her kitchen and when I saw this, it reminded me of her and I knew I must have it.

The weather has been incredibly mild for February and I was able to open the windows in the house for the first time since fall. Opening the windows doesn't get to happen too often, but I love it when it's feasible. I think the thing I like the most is when the breeze blows my veil-y curtains around like I'm living in a romance novel or an 80's music video.

The warm weather also means that the trees and grass and flowers are beginning to wake up. Perry's been having worse than usual seasonal allergies and we're not sure whether we should blame it on the dog or not. We had to mow the lawn this weekend because the grass (weeds) were getting a bit tall. I normally don't have to break out the lawn mover until March, but I don't mind. I miss working out in the yard. It's really the only outdoor exercise I ever get.
